Assignment #1 Mystery Band CD cover: Challenge yourself to think on the fly, and develop an interesting solution to the problem presented.” Here are the rules:
THIS MUST BE COMPLETED IN ONE CLASS PERIOD
The final image must be cropped to 8"x8" inches. Open a new document with these dimensions.
1 – Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random” or click en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 – Go to “Random quotations” or click www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or click www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
When trying to download your image from the internet it may not let you unless you have a Flicker account. If this shows up do a screen shot by holding "shift command 4" on your keyboard. then draw a selection box around the image.DO NOT DRAG THE SMALL THUMBNAIL FROM THE INTERNET!!!!!!!!!
4 – Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.
Once you are done, save your work and post it to your portfolio. Print it using the ART COLOR HP printer. Write a detailed description as to how you came to create the CD cover you did. List the "random quote", the picture and article title you used for your inspiration.
Assignment #2 A-Z Photos: Photograph the Alphabet through objects and random lettering. Find creative ways, look at shapes around you, in windows, trees, cracks in the sidewalk etc. Go out and find objects that form the shape of each letter of the alphabet. That’s only 26 letters. Sounds easy enough, but you are not allowed to use actual lettering found on signs or buildings (that would be cheating).
Assignment #3 Pick a color: Photography 20 images that incorporate the color you choose. Remember this is photography class not snapshot class. Compose your images with purpose, make them interesting and meaningful.
Assignment #4 Photoshop Blast: Its time for a little crazy wacky fun.
First we are going to blend some people. Lets play with some famous actors. Do a google search for "two famous actors", try to find an image with 2 people standing next to each other, (this will make it easier to blend). We are going to use Layers, the Clone Stamp tool, lasso and liquify tools to create our hybrid humans.
For the second part of this assignment you are to merge 2 animals into one using Photoshop. Try a mammal and an insect or 2 animals that are not from the same family.
The idea behind this is to learn blending tools that will help you with your midterm exam.
Check these examples out. Wacky Animal Hybrids When blending images you want to make sure that they are similar in size and resolution. If you take any images from Google, make sure you search for large resolution images.
You are more than encouraged to do a little research on blending layers in Photoshop.

Assignment #6 Faces all around us: Find faces in everyday objects. We’ve all seen them, looking at us, watching us, laughing at us, but we just move on without thinking about them. It is your turn to capture their gaze with your camera. Search out and find those hidden faces in everyday objects. You must find a minimum of 10 faces.
Assignment #7 Pick a song: Pick a song, create a photograph that best represents that song.
Assignment #8 Trick Photography and Special Effects: Go through the PDF and find a photo or photoshop tutorial that you have not done before. Trick Photography
Advanced Photography Assignments: Assignment #1 Still Life / Natural Light Essential Questions:
How does the angle of light affect the subject?
What is the importance of cropping in camera?
When is the light the most appealing to the subject?
Directions:
Set up 2 still lives in a setting of natural light, (kitchen window etc.)
Shoot each still life at different times of day. Concentrate on good exposure, composition and light angle.
Make sure to only include the important information, crop in camera, get in close or be conscious of your environment.

What design elements make a photographic image compelling?
How can one design an image specifically for a black and white medium?
What is the importance of Light in making a well exposed photograph?
Directions:
Shoot 20 images.
Subject and location are up the the photographer, but the images should be visually compelling and use these four elements specifically: light, line, shadow and shape. Experiment, look for bold or subtle examples around you.

Students are asked to think about how location, lighting and composition could add to the meaning of the photo. As always, students are visualizing in black and white.
